How can I receive services for my child?

Each school in Fayette County has a school counselor who has been trained to assist our students and their families with many concerns. In addition, the school district and the AWARE program have placed three Student Support Specialists in schools to provide more in-depth support for students and families. The three individuals cover multiple schools each week. Contact your school counselor or student support specialist if you have concerns about your child. You can also click the following link to connect with your child's school https://www.fcsk12.net/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=1966934&type=d&pREC_ID=2079556. Once you click the link, scroll down to the correct school to the far left. Click the appropriate link for that particular school to the far right. Complete the referral and click submit. All counselors are the first to receive the referral as they are considered the gatekeepers of the referral pathway. If you prefer that your child speak with the Student Support Specialist assigned to that particular school, please request in your brief description. Please see their locations below....
Marian Brittenum - FWCHS (including JILC), LMES
Zhanebria Henderson - EJHS, BCES
Mercedes Floyd - WJHS, SWES & OES

What additional professional counseling services are available to help?

The Fayette County Public Schools - Project AWARE has contracted with the Professional Care Services to provide school based services for students in need of additional counseling support. We also collaborate with other non-AWARE outside agencies.
Where do these sessions take place?

These sessions are scheduled after receiving active consent from the parent (in writing) and conducted in a private school setting. The counseling services are less disruptive of the child’s instructional time and easier for parents by reducing the appointment process outside of school. We bring the needed professional support to your child. However, the first initial step would be the intake process at the local office of Professional Care Services (Somerville). Once the parent or legal guardian has completed the intake process, the student will be able to receive services during regular school hours.
What about my child’s privacy?

All services made available through Project AWARE are private and confidential. Fayette County Public Schools and contracted service providers will honor your child’s privacy guaranteed under FERPA (Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act) and HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).
