Vision and Mission

Vision
Our commitment is to meet the individual needs of students ages 3 through 21 in the least restrictive environment who are eligible for special education and related services according to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

Mission
Fayette County Schools' Special Education Department provides high-quality services and support to students with disabilities. Through the utilization of appropriate research-based strategies and resources, we are able to provide a continuum of services and develop programs that will meet the unique educational needs of children with disabilities.

Fayette County Public Schools Special Education Department believes:

  • A student’s outcomes can significantly increase when families work with educators and specialists.
  • Special Education is not a location but a set of specifically designed services to help students with disabilities reach their maximum potential.
  • An Individualized Educational Planning Team must make all decisions about programs and services for students with disabilities based on each child's individual strengths and challenges.
  • Parental involvement in the development and implementation of the individualized program is critical. When families work with educators and specialists, a student’s outcomes can significantly increase.
  • All students are important and valued and have unique needs and abilities.
