What are the birthday requirement dates for school entrance?

A child must turn 3 or 4 by August 15 of the upcoming school year to enter pre-K or 5 by August 15 to enter kindergarten.

Pre-K and Kindergarten birthday change for entrance

The date has changed from which a child must turn four years old to enter a state pre-K program and five years old to enter kindergarten from August 31 in 2013-14 to August 15 thereafter. FCPS makes exceptions to kindergarten eligibility for students currently participating in pre-K and for those students eligible for kindergarten under current law who would not otherwise be eligible under the provisions of this act.
Do I need to bring my child to early registration?

Yes, we will be conducting a short screening interview with each child.
When is early registration taking place?

Early registration will take place every Friday in March from 8-12, except for March 19th, at each elementary school site.


Where is early registration taking place?

Pre-K early registration will take place at each of the pre-K school sites.


What do I need to bring to early registration?

1. Bring your child.  2. A certified birth certificate (not the mother's copy).  3. Child's social security card  4. Proof of state-required immunizations and current physical.  5.  Parent's proof of income (public assistance documentation for food stamps, last income tax return, or check stubs of all working family members)  6. Three proofs of residence - One must be a deed or property tax statement, mortgage statement, rental agreement or lease, or a Shared Residency Affidavit.  Two must be a utility bill, phone bill, cable bill, bank statement, insurance statement, or a current government-issued document that contains the same address (e.g., public assistance documentation such as for food stamps, W-2 form, driver's license, passport, voter registration card.)
I missed the early registration. What do I do now?

Come to the Central Administration Building (CAB) located at 10425 Hwy 76 S, Somerville and pick up an application or download one off of our website (www.fcsk12.net) located under the Parents/Students tab under Registration Information.

Once a registration packet has been picked up or downloaded and completed, it may be dropped off at CAB for processing. All necessary documents must be provided for copying in order for the application to be considered complete.
